The Good Folks at Newfangled

We encourage everyone here at Newfangled to blog. You can read and subscribe to any of these blogs or use this combined RSS feed we made using Yahoo! Pipes to subscribe to them all.

Eric Holter, Owner & CEO
Eric is the founder of Newfangled Web Factory. He is the author of Client vs. Developer Wars and writes our monthly Web Smart newsletters. His favorite marketing book, by far, is Selling the Invisible, by Harry Beckwith, which he makes everyone at Newfangled read, read, and read. As a boss, he's very intimidating--very. All of the employees fear him.

Mark O'Brien, President
MARK O'BRIEN SPEAKS VERY LOUDLY - OOPS, FORGOT TO APPLY THE O'BRIEN FILTER - there, that's better. His enthusiasm for speaking with new clients about their website projects or managing existing projects is evident through his volume. Not to worry, we've sequestered him, sound proofed his office, and adjusted his phone. He also cooks a mean grilled pizza.

Mike Boulet, Chief Technology Officer
Mike Boulet is truly a geek among geeks. He has a passion for taking the complex and making it simple. Mike created the NewfangledCMS and continues to improve its simple, stable, and flexible development framework. Much of what Mike develops is appreciated by our clients as they easily maintain their sites. But so much more lies beneath the surface and can only be enjoyed by our developers. If only you could see the beauty of its efficient code, consistent standards, sweet data structures - ah well, for us non-geeks, we'll just have to enjoy the final product.

Dave Mello, Lead Systems Engineer
Dave Mello is the man. Seriously, he's one of those rare web developers who can both code and design. It's uncommon for the muse of programming and the muse of design to lay claim to the same individual. Dave works with Mike on NewfangledCMS research and development. Dave started working at Newfangled way back in 1998 when he was just graduating from high school. Back then, he only wore black - ha, kids. Oh, wait! He still only wears black.

Justin Kerr, Creative Director
Justin tries really hard to take himself seriously, but it's difficult when your job is to play with colors, shapes, pictures, and letters all day. He does have a prestigious degree from Rhode Island School of Design, though, and we respect that. Oh, and guess what? He has FIVE kids! Can you believe that? What kind of crazy person has five kids? Oh, yeah, Eric Holter does. And Mike Boulet and Steve Brock aren't far behind with four kids each. Man, what do they put in the water at Newfangled?

Chris Butler, Vice President
There's a whole lot going on under the surface of a Newfangled Website, and some might say the same thing about Chris Butler. Seriously, have you ever heard of someone who refuses to watch "Lost" yet can still talk about the show in detail from reading scripts online? Yes, Chris is deep and mysterious. Fortunately for us Chris's depth of knowledge and curiosity makes him ideal for helping our clients work through the complex world of web development. Most people never see all that goes into building a website, but Chris manages it all, and that without even using a computer. Just kidding, he has computer. He calls it Dharma.

Katie Jamison, Project Manager
The Newfangled boy's club has been disbanded. Katie Jamison comes to Newfangled from Lulu.com. We used Lulu to publish our book--that's one sophisticated website! At Lulu Katie interfaced with customers as an event and distribution coordinator. She worked with developers to implement site and process improvements. We're really glad to have Katie join us--and just in time to avoid that looming EEOC investigation!

Mitch Rothrock, Project Manager
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetaur adipisicing elit, sed do... oh, oops, forgot to leave grayscreen prototype mode. As a Project Manager, Mitch spends most of his time working through grayscreen prototypes with our clients. Grayscreening is a foundational part of the Newfangled website development process and Mitch is daily knee-deep in prototypes. He excels in prototyping because of his computer skills, his analytical mind, thoughtfulness and thoroughness. His Latin skills also come in handy.
Quake name: Rothrock, er I mean Thunderstruck

Jason Adams, Project manager
Jason arrived at Newfangled from the same trail as Katie Jamison. They're both Lulu.com graduates. When we evaluate prospective new Project Managers we have a set of qualities we look for. At the top of the list, just under excellent client communication skills, is having a love for the web. Here is a list of Jason's web enthusiast credentials; Blog/Podcast: http://www.randomsignal.com, Feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/RandomSignal, Skype: jason.adams, AIM/Yahoo!: thecryptonaut, Twitter: HoboZero, Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/p/Jason_Adams/727780369, Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cryptonaut, Last.fm http://www.last.fm/user/RandomSignal. Bettina Johnson, Project Manager Assistant
The combination of Bettina's unique background in journalism and technology, her deep attention to detail (which extends even to an expertise in proper grammar), and her vast worldwide connections makes her an ideal Project Manager Assistant. As a resource to our Project Managers, she might be prototyping, testing new sites and upgrades and managing the flow of tasks all in the same afternoon. Is there anything she can't do? Actually, yes. She can't whistle, snap her fingers or blow bubbles with gum.
Quake name: Digerati | Read Bettina's Blog

Steve Grothmann, Project Manager Assistant
A practicing musician and former English teacher at NC State, Steve can combine his artistic talent with his analytical mind, which comes in handy as a Project Manager Assistant. He helps our Project Managers quickly organize and build complex prototypes and finds unique and innovative approaches throughout the web development process to ensure its success. We're still waiting for his ability to identify any bird he sees to contribute to the company...

Able Parris, SelectEdit Designer and Developer
Able is a new-school meets old-school designer. He likes to do things by hand. For Able cutting and pasting is just as likely to involve paper, scissors and glue as it is Ctrl-C and Ctrl-V. Straddling real and virtual worlds makes Able the perfect intermediary between clients and websites.
Quake name: Pumpkin | Read Able's Blog

Jim Hendrickson, Developer
Jim is a rock. He's been working here at the factory since 1998. If you've read our newsletters about Browser Battles, you know that there are literally hundreds of browser/platform combinations, and Jim knows them all. He's our browser guru. Jim is always staring off into space. Really - he's an astronomy nut, owns his own telescope and everything.
Quake name: Jim | Read Jim's Blog

Steve Brock, Developer
B-Rock codes a mean website. He's been at it a long time - since 1996. His breadth of experience is so vast, I don't think there's anything he can't do. In fact, B-Rock earned his moniker after he climbed a rock on our annual retreat in 2005. I bet heavy that he'd never make it halfway up, but he did it - went all the way to the top. Don't bet against B-Rock.

George Wamichi, Developer
George is a big football fan. It's interesting how the language of sports changes in different parts of the country. In our Rhode Island office when the question "did you see the game last night" is asked it obviously refers to the New England Patriots. Down in our North Carolina office it usually refers to the Tar Heels College Basketball game. George has his own funny sports lingo, for example, when talking about a football game he calls a touchdown a goal.

Nolan Caudill, Developer
Little known fact: If you stacked Nolan's music collection in one pile it would be the exact height of the empire state building. We know this because we actually did stack it, to find out how high it would go--boy was that tricky. Ever try stacking MP3s? It's not easy I'll have you know.
